Learning To Paint In Oils with Chappy Valente
Four 3-hour class series, Wednesdays 4:00 – 7:00 PM – 12 hours of instruction total
Cost:
Public $198
Prerequisite: Designed for intermediate painters who have taken at least one class with Chappy as this class builds on information already established in those sessions.
We will explore color mixing, brush technique, value painting (using a notan), how mediums work. Many other advanced methods will be explored depending on subject matter selected by the participants.
In this workshop, we will expand on the four simple steps to the successful painting you have learned previously in Chappy’s Class.
Students will come to an even broader understanding of the principles of composition, color, value, and texture.
Find some images of something you’d like to render in paint and get ready to have some fun!
We will be using Oil paints in this workshop.
What to bring:
Bring whatever oil paints you may have on hand to the first class, and any brushes for working in oil paints (Don’t buy any new paints until after you attend the first class and Chappy will review supplies with you.)
bring 2 painting surfaces (canvas, paper, board, etc)
Bring several photos of your subject: landscape, architecture, pet, still life, whatever you want, and the instructor will help in selecting the one to use. 5 x 7 or larger hard copy photos recommended or an iPad.
Painting smock or clothing you’re ok getting paint on
Chappy Valente has been an artist/art instructor for forty years. He studied at the International School of Painting, Drawing & Sculpture in Umbria, Italy, as well as the Art Students League of New York. He has recently relocated from N.Carolina to Nevada City.
